"THOUGHTS ON GOVERNMENT"
Adams wrote this letter to Declaration of Independence signer William Hooper of North Carolina. He also transcribed this out by hand to William Penn and R.H. Lee of Virginia. Lee would circulate the contents and ideas among his peers in Virginia. These ideas helped form the foundation for Virginia?s first Constitution which was written and signed into law in June of 1776- weeks before the rest of the colonies would join the Virginians in declaring Independence. - Mike Church
Lincoln's Letter to Horace Greeley
Washington, August 22, 1862.
Hon. Horace Greeley:
I have just read yours of the 19th. addressed to myself through the New-York Tribune. If there be in it any statements, or assumptions of fact, which I may know to be erroneous, I do not, now and here, controvert them. If there be in it any inferences which I may believe to be falsely drawn, I do not now and here, argue against them. If there be perceptable in it an impatient and dictatorial tone, I waive it in deference to an old friend, whose heart I have always supposed to be right.

This reaction paper discusses the psychodynamic approach to leadership styles and how it applies to my effectiveness as a leader. In this discussion of the psychodynamic approach, I will juxtapose my personal leadership style based on my personality type with the situation to give an accurate picture of how personality style dictates my behavior. Personality refers to the consistent pattern of thinking, feeling, and the way of acting (McCrae & Costa (1990). Since we will deal with personalities, it can be assumed that no two situations will elicit identical responses from the leader because they are situational and emotionally different. My leadership style will be assessed using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), and how my temperament type is expressed in the workplace.

In this CNET article by Declan McCulagh, he reports that the DoJ is planning to request mandatory data retention by Internet providers. Their argument is that the lack of data retention is interfering with law enforcement?s ability to investigate cases. This implies some kind of shift in the balance of privacy vs. access. No such shift has taken place. Read the rest of Lance Cotrell's article.
Leadership is not magic or mystical powers possessed by an anointed few?? It is not based on height, weight, or other physical features.? Leadership is something that must be manifested to be observed, felt, and understood. It is based on observance of behavior and clarity of vision that moves inexorably toward achieving a stated goal and engenders the voluntary participation of others towards the achievement of said goals. This succinct definition ?Leadership is the process of influencing an organized group toward accomplishing its goals? by (Hughes, Ginnett, & Curphy, 2009, p. 6) captures most of the essence of leadership. The successes of various leaders like Churchill, Reagan, Eisenhower, Nimitz, and Gates, have fueled the belief that leaders are born and not made. There is the belief that due to some innate character quality one person may be destined to be a great leader and another is not.
