Surgery For Living in Dogs
It is a common practice in some of the dog breeds to perform surgery to allow the dogs to live or to breed.? In particular, the English Bulldog, Pugs, Pekinese and the Neapolitan Mastiff normally require surgery to ensure life and comfort.? From fixing entropion, ectropion, stomach torsion, breathing and other respiratory problems to the major surgeries required for reproduction - these breeds are in serious danger of survival.
Normally any living creature which cannot reproduce will go extinct in a short time.? Only with dogs do we have people taking over the role of nature and performing Invetro, AI and other assisted "mating" to enable reproduction.? In many cases the issues with breeding are:
??? ?males showing no interest in females in heat
????? males too fat or big and unable to mount females
????? males unable to mount because of hips, joints or muscle issues
????? males mount females but are unable to connect
?? ???males mount females but cannot sustain position
????? females cannot support weight of males
????? females have too much loose skin and skirting which prevents mating
I am sure there are other reasons but those are the ones I can recall right now.? In many cases there is significant decrease in the sperm count of the males and fertility of both males and females and even if a "successful" mating is achieved naturally or unnaturally puppies are not produced. As the frequency of natural breeding diminishes, breeders must seek out other methods to ensure reproduction
